Girl power in the Flathead Valley has leveled up with a new free coding program geared to girls and young women ages 9 through 19.
Free afterschool coding academy for girls starts in Kalispell on Oct. 6
Montana Governor Steve Bullock was in Missoula on Thursday to show his support for Montana Code Girls -- an after school program dedicated to building skills in software development for girls from nine 9 to 19.
They were two of 28 young women who participated in the Montana Code Girls pilot class, which is a free, after-school technology program open to all Montana girls ages 9-19. The mission is to inspire and empower more girls to get interested in careers in the science, technology, engineering and math fields, known as STEM.
A program born in Missoula last year to give girls and young women the skills needed to pursue a STEM education and break through long-standing gender barriers is going statewide this academic year, as Montana Code Girls expands its reach.
